Gallup Journey Stories

This section contains a document titled STORIES FROM  KITCHEN'S OPERA HOUSE IN GALLUP, NEW MEXICO.  This new document was originally published in the November 2009 edition of the GALLUP JOURNEY and can be found at www.gallupjourney.com.  The new document provides first-person stories of events that occurred over the history of the Opera House.  Eighteen Gallup residents shared their rich experiences on the activities of the hall, cafe, and bar.  The stories bring out the melting pot assimilation features of Gallup, which was reported to have citizens representing 53 different natinalities in 1935.  At one time or another citizens from this broad cross section attended functions at the Opera House and participated in mulit-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi- racial events, sometimes with conflict and sometimes with rich expressions of the best of the human experiences; a development that largely preceded and now heralds the makeup of the United States today.
